Making history as America’s
first African American President, Barack Obama took the oath of office,
becoming the 44th President of the United States of America. Only forty-six years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and proclaimed to the nation, "I have a dream," an
estimated 2 million people gathered on the national mall in Washington
D.C. to watch this history-making event.
Boldly
declaring the “time has come to put away our childish ways” and
speaking of the price and responsibility of citizenship, President
Barach Obama declared that what is needed now is, "a new era of
responsibility" in which every American fulfills their duties to
themselves, their nation, and the world.
