Watch Dr. Jim bradshaw's message: The Vulnerability of Worship
Preaching from Luke's Gospel Chapter 7, Dr. Jim Bradshaw makes this incident in the ministry of Jesus come alive, as he explains to us the vulnerability of true worship.
Using the subtle differences in the Gospel accounts as the backdrop, Dr. Bradshaw contrasts the self-righteous and unbelieving attitude of Simon the Pharisee with the humble, believing attitude of the sinful woman who broke the alabaster box of perfume and poured herself out in worship, washing the feet of Jesus with her tears, anointing them with costly perfume, wiping them with her hair.
Somehow this sinful woman had heard something in the Spirit. She prepared herself and came to Simon's house to worship Jesus. By the revelation of the Holy Spirit she recognized Him as the Messiah, the incarnate Son of God, and poured herself out at His feet in costly worship.
Sadly, even as this amazing woman is pouring herself out in worship, Simon is thinking critically about Jesus. "If He really were a prophet, He would knew what kind of woman this is." Simon wanted to believe in Jesus or he probably would not have invited Jesus to his house. But his traditions, his religious baggage was getting in the way. All of us want to worship. We were made to worship. The problem is that we worship the wrong things or we worship in thee wrong way. Our baggage gets in the way of our worship.
